The All Party Parliamentary Internet Group has re-launched its website, http://www.apig.org.uk , following a redesign by Nomensa ( http://www.nomensa.com ). The site has been created with accessibility as a priority, achieving the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) 'triple A' standard as defined by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). This far exceeds the 'single A' minimum standard defined by the Cabinet Office e-Government Unit.
In updating the site, APIG and Nomensa have created a new look and feel, as well as making the structure easier to use. Information about APIG's activities can now be accessed more easily by a much larger audience. The website is built using Defacto ( http://www.defacto-cms.com ), Nomensa's web content management system, which allows the APIG team to manage the content and structure using an accessible interface, while consistently maintaining an accessible online presence.
APIG's chairman, Derek Wyatt, MP, comments: "APIG has a busy year ahead and the updated site will help us promote our work. Accessibility is a crucial element in ensuring more people benefit from everything the internet has to offer. We believe visitors will find the new site easy to navigate."
Leonie Watson, Nomensa's head of accessibility, comments: "At a time when the government expects all public sector websites to meet specific accessibility levels, it was important for Nomensa to prioritise easy access when redesigning APIG's presence. We hope we've achieved a result which will set a benchmark for All Party Groups in this area"
