The European Design Show, which runs from 28 May to 4 September 2005, will showcase the most inspiring design innovations to have been developed in Europe in the past two years. To be included is the annual report ‘Twelve’, designed by Brahm for Leeds Christian homeless charity St Georges Crypt. Instead of listing figures and statistics, the design of the report took a new stance by illustrating to stakeholders the effect the charity had on 12 peoples’ lives over the year.
This is the second in the biennial series of European Design Shows to be presented at the Design Museum. The first in 2003 was among the museum’s most popular exhibitions. The 2005 show will explore every area of design and showcase the museum’s selection of the most exciting developments in contemporary design, including: Team McLaren Mercedes’ world-beating Formula One cars the latest advances in rapid prototyping technology beautiful books inspiring ceramics and a newly invented shade of black. The annual report ‘Twelve’ will feature in the Reading Room section of the high profile exhibition, showcasing the best-designed books.
Sophie McKinlay, curator at the Design Museum said: “The exhibition will celebrate design’s diversity and its potential to make our lives more efficient and enjoyable. Ground breaking design impacts on every aspect of our lives through aesthetic enjoyment, innovative technology, functionality, sustainability – or just fun. It’s great to see designers, like those at Brahm, breaking the mould.”
Thea Mallett, associate director and head of design at Brahm commented, “We’re really excited to be included in this prestigious design show – it’s fantastic to know that our work will be featured alongside designers we’ve admired for years. We’re especially proud that the piece was created for a local charity that we have worked with closely over a number of years. It just goes to show that true creativity does not need a big budget to deliver great results.”
In March 2005, Brahm was awarded gold for ‘Twelve’ as Best Annual Report at the Design Week Awards in March, beating competition including the Channel 4 Annual Report and the Egg Report and Accounts.
