In light of web accessibility research conducted by Nomensa that analysed the top ten travel websites in the UK ( UK Travel Websites Report 2005 ), lastminute.com was keen to assess and ensure a high level of accessibility and usability . Currently striving to be the largest European e-commerce lifestyle player, the experience their website provides for their users is crucial in achieving that objective. A strategic need was identified by lastminute.com to improve web accessibility and to meet the obligations of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and Nomensa was appointed to support the initial assessment.
To provide a sound understanding of where lastminute.com currently stands in terms of accessibility and usability, Nomensa conducted a detailed accessibility audit and a usability review . This type of review quickly identifies many quick fixes and recommendations that would improve the user experience offered, both in the short and long term.
Nomensa’s review of lastminute.com revealed that a user-centred design strategy would greatly improve and enhance website performance . Detailed reports were produced that clearly described website usability and accessibility issues and solutions , as well as recommendations for enhancing the user experience. The process also ensured a high level of knowledge transfer and learning for the lastminute.com in-house team. The foundations for optimising the website are now in place, ready to implement the recommended solutions and measure ongoing improvements.
"Nomensa provided us with a thorough analysis of our site - their presentation and associated documentation has allowed us to put a formal plan into action." - UI and Customer Experience Manager, lastminute.com.
