Jonathan Chadwick is the artistic type... ...an independent illustrator and graphic designer with eighteen years professional experience. Based in Macclesfield, Cheshire, I'm available on either a project / commission basis or for freelance work (either on or off site). Frustrated by a perceived devaluing and replacement of art and craft by technology, the Artistic Type represents a definite move away from computer based design towards a more traditional, creative, hand crafted approach. My portfolio demonstrates this approach through my engraving style, black and white line illustrations. I've been commissioned to supply artwork for magazine editorials, retail packaging and corporate literature, winning several awards in the process. Transferring these values into my design work I have also gone on to produce crafted company logo's along with creative artwork for catalogues, books and brochures - ideally suited to clients offering more artisan products and services or wanting to present a more personal approach. Whilst practicing commercially, I'm have also recently completed a post graduate research Masters Degree at the Manchester Institute for Research and Innovation in Art & Design (MIRIAD). You can keep up to date with my latest news through Creative Match, my Blog, Facebook and Twitter.
This series of eight illustrations were produced as part of my Masters Degree in Design and Art Direction. They offer a contemporary counterpoint to William Hogarth's original 'Modern Moral Subjects', whilst interweaving narratives about the possible origins of our pub names.
These illustrations served as a pre-cursor to the 'After A Rake's Progress' series, exploring and re-mixing the origins of pub names and Renaissance allegory.
