Entrepreneur Ross Williams, MD and founder of Rawnet and Chief Executive of Global Personals, has been recognised for his outstanding achievement with a short-listing for ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ in the prestigious Growing Business Awards 2006.

Described by Chancellor Gordon Brown as 'the premier showcase of enterprise in the UK'  the annual Growing Business Awards, now in their eighth year, are open to all independently-owned UK companies with fewer than 500 employees.

They attract hundreds of entrants each year and have become a spotlight for recognising entrepreneurial talent in the UK.

And this year Ross Williams, founder of Rawnet and Chief Executive of Global Personals, is one of the impressive nominees.

“I’m thrilled at being short-listed for this award,” said Ross Williams. “The Growing Business Awards recognise the best of British businesses and attract such high calibre entrants that I can honestly say just being short-listed is a tremendous honour. Past winners such as Mike Lynch of Autonomy Systems, Karan Bilimoria of Cobra Beer, and Simon Nixon of Moneysupermarket.com have been a real inspiration to British business-people. It feels great to be ranked alongside them.”

Richard Lambert, CBI Director General, also commented: "There are so many fantastic companies out there, creating wealth and jobs for the country, but few ever get the public recognition they deserve. That is why the Growing Business Awards are so important. They celebrate the success of the best in British business and, as the success stories of today, will inevitably inspire the entrepreneurs of tomorrow."

Sponsored by T Mobile, the ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ award celebrates entrepreneurs, under the age of 30, who are really going places. The judges are looking for candidates who have already started to build a business (or businesses), and who can show they have the ambition, energy, skill and vision to really scale the heights.

Ross Williams is a true business visionary. Whilst still at university in 1998, he established Rawnet (now a leading marketing communications agency) as a limited company, managing to juggle a difficult degree course with a successful career.

In May 2006, the company launched software application Fabric, a presentation management system that helps companies create winning presentations in minutes whilst ensuring the integrity of their brand and corporate communications. Sales of Fabric have since sky rocketed as the product enjoys a unique position in the market with massive demand.

Clients using Fabric technology now include The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Shell UK, AMEC, Prudential PLC, Zenith Optimedia, Honda UK, Honeywell, Castrol, O2, Savills, Computacenter, Lawn Tennis Association and the Williams Formula 1 Team.

Currently,  Rawnet has grown to a headcount of 25 staff with prestigious offices opposite the castle in Windsor High Street. This growth pattern looks set to continue into 2007, as the company continues to push Fabric into the UK marketing sector. Fabric was recently nominated for Best Marketing Tool at the B2B Marketing Awards.

As well as successfully running Rawnet, Ross also embarked on a joint venture in the form of Global Personals, an online dating network – which became a limited company in 2003. In the last 12 months, Global Personals has grown from just two full time employees to over a dozen staff who support the marketing, partnership and customer service operations. Since founding Rawnet and Global Personals, Ross continues to have an active role in the day to day management of both companies, and although only 28, has over 10 years experience in New Media.

This year’s ceremony will take place in front of an audience of 700 entrepreneurs at a black-tie gala dinner on Thursday 30th November at The London Hilton on Park Lane. The evening’s events are being compèred by William Hague, and Gordon Brown has been invited to return to deliver a keynote speech.
