Biog
Matt studied in Design before travelling the world. He's since had 8 years specialist recruitment experience working across the whole design industry and currently works as a Director at Purple. He heads up the Design and Branding team which covers corporate identity, brand comms, brand and own-brand packaging, brand experience and retail.
What does creative mean to you?
New, clever, beautiful, simple
Best piece of business advice?
I'd like to plagiarise the approach to work and business, of two of my favourite clients –
“Ideas can be clever (and should be) but they are only great if they're relevant”
“Good design is good business, effective creative and design with substance”
(you know who you are!)
Who do you admire?
People making creative better when the odds are against them. This might seem very general but there are many factors which hinder great creativity and it's those who are battling and succeeding that I admire.
What could be done better?
Educating university leavers on industry. I lecture at my old uni as no one was there to set me up for the real world and tell me how to approach the job market when I was graduating, in particular how to best position myself against all the competition. So I share my knowledge of the job market and hints and tips with under graduates who need it as much as anyone else (if not more!).
Where are you going to be in 10 years time?
Working 8 jobs to put my children through University.
