Pepper in the swim for British Gas

Integrated brand, marketing and communications agency Pepper has created a refreshing new marketing proposition for British Gas this summer.

The campaign, launching on 25 April 2012, is offering ‘Free Swims for Britain’, aimed to engage with the British public to encourage fun family time, to persuade people to take up a new sport or hobby, to help novices to learn to swim and to inspire the GBR Swimming Team at the same time.

Pepper has developed a range of on- and off-line communication touch points to motivate all consumers, not just British Gas customers, to take part. These include social media tools, direct and email marketing to existing and potential customers, promotional materials for participating swimming pools and communications collateral for pool operators.

Working closely with pool operators to maximise the campaign uptake, British Gas is giving consumers the chance to have a free taster lesson, coaching session or just a free swim. In return, all they have to do is go online and pledge their support for the British swim team. British Gas has been a principal partner of British Swimming since 2009.

Andy Bolter, creative director at Pepper, says: “The new communications campaign is designed to help Britain achieve more in the water by encouraging adults and children alike to take to the water. We’ve worked with British Gas for three years and have enjoyed the challenge of creating a campaign that will inspire consumers to take on an essential life skill - swimming.”
