Marketing-specialist printer introduces greener deliveries

Posted by: Creativematch | Date added: Thu 13 Mar 2008

Blackmore Ltd, an award winning environmentally friendly marketing-specialist printer, is one of only a handful of print companies who has purchased an LPG vehicle to ensure their deliveries are greener.

The Low Emission Zone, which recently came into force in London will initially only affect diesel Lorries and other vehicles over 12 tonnes manufactured before 2001. Blackmore Ltd invested in an LPG van to combat the poor air quality that petrol and diesel vehicles emit as part of their environmental policy.

Converting to an LPG van was important to Blackmore as they emit about 20% less C0² levels than petrol vehicles and compared to diesel they emit substantially less fine particles. At the moment there are no other Low Emission Zones in the UK, but this could change as there are 50 in the rest of Europe. The quality of air emitted from petrol and diesel vehicles is so bad that a study by the European Commission calculated that air pollution reduces life expectancy by an average of almost nine months across the European Union.

Blackmore Ltd’s sales director Aubrey Aviss stated: “We invested in an LPG van because the environmental benefits are huge. LPG is a low carbon content fuel that can reduce the emission of carbon dioxide, the main gas responsible for global warming. This means that by using LPG vans we can do our part to combat the greenhouse effect.”

In addition to using an LPG van, Blackmore has reduced their land fill waste by over 70%, dramatically reduced energy consumption and water usage, as well as reducing VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions by 3 tonnes over the last year as part of their environmental commitment.
