CBBC Sport Superstars offers a host of quirky and exciting games, featuring a range of sports. The project is a key part of the CBBC website’s Summer of Sport and showcases loads of the channel’s stars as not-so-expert (but always entertaining) coaches.
Players GET READY (by creating their own Sport Superstar athlete), GET SET (by training them up) and GO (by competing in the sports – cycling, football and triple jump). They can hone skills such as endurance, coordination and agility in the training ground, then head to the arena to take on opponents; the more they train, the better their chances of winning will be!
The CBBC star coaches, including Chris, Dodge and Ore, offer top training tips and post-performance commentary, while Iain and Hacker are on hand with the amazing (and sometimes bizarre) Hacker Facts.
Emilia McKenzie, Digital Project Manager at Kanoti, describes the games: “CBBC Sport Superstars has got so much to offer whatever your relationship with sport. The slightly surreal, witty story-world, combined with sporting prowess and glamour, really adds that all-essential humour. At the same time, the gameplay and level of complexity should maintain the interest of even hardened tweenage gamers! There are so many ways to succeed – you can collect awards, medals, Hacker Facts and all kinds of bonuses, so entry-level gamers need not feel left out either. We thoroughly enjoyed creating CBBC Sport Superstars and hope that visitors to the CBBC website will also enjoy their journey from sporting amateur to legendary Sport Superstar!”
CBBC interactive producer Sally Greig said of the games; “CBBC Sport Superstars offers a fresh, fun and exciting take on sports games. The combination of unconventional style, varied gameplay and quirky humour means that the games are for everybody – not just sports fans!
Our CBBC star coaches are there to entertain and encourage players – and to make them laugh out loud, of course.
We really hope our audience will have fun training up their own Sport Superstar athletes, and we look forward to launching new sports over the summer.”
CBBC Sport Superstars was commissioned by channel controller Damian Kavanagh and overseen by CBBC Executive Producer, Julia Bond.
