Gratterpalm And Viking Show Workers The Red Card

Just in time for England’s match against Sweden today, leading retail advertising agency, Gratterpalm, has launched the Office Ref mini campaign for Viking, the e-commerce and direct mail office supplies brand.

The campaign features a series of videos, with match style commentary by Chris Kamara, of the Viking Office Ref handing out bookings to workers for a variety of office misdemeanours, and blowing the final whistle at the end of a long working day. Office fouls include taking terrible phone messages, answering mobile phones in the middle of meetings and stealing food from the fridge.

Simon Kendrew, digital director at Gratterpalm, commented: “Viking asked us to develop its online brand and help it to engage with a younger audience. So we created the Viking Office Ref concept to speak to young, football-watching office workers and encourage them to interact with Viking by uploading their own Office Ref videos for a chance to win an iPad. The activity is also perfectly timed to enable Viking to take part in Euro 2012, which is already shaping up to be a fantastic tournament.”

Stuart Carlisle, Head of E-Commerce at Office Depot, which owns the Viking brand, added: “We’ve had fun working with Gratterpalm to develop the Office Ref, and I’ve no doubt that the campaign will help us to engage with our key target audience during the football this summer.”

Gratterpalm was appointed by Office Depot to re-launch its small business brand, Viking in 2011. The rebrand launched in the summer of 2011, with an integrated campaign including a TV advert featuring the voiceover of Chris Evans, with a second burst of activity in March 2012.
