Do The X Factor contestants Facebook and Twitter profiles indicate who will be next to leave the show?

ITV’s X Factor 2011 (series 8) is just past half way through the live shows with Week 6 being a Queen and Lady GaGa theme that saw 30 year old Kitty Brucknell the latest to leave.

But who will be next and can social media show us who is likely to be next?

Rachel Hawkes, account director at Elemental, the communications consultancy that created The X Factor infographic comments, “With the drama surrounding Frankie Cocozza and the programme makers re-introducing former contestants into the mix, this week has been one of the more interesting; particularly from a social media perspective. What we can clearly see from crunching the numbers is, that although still very popular (they have hundreds of thousands of fans each), the rate at which both Janet Devlin and Misha B are growing across Twitter and Facebook has slowed down considerably.

Whilst their competitors, Marcus Collins, Craig Colton, Little Mix and now Amelia Lily are steadily increasing week on week. This demonstrates that the viewers at home are no longer being interested (and/or inspired) enough by these two contestants to want to keep up to date with them online.”

Elemental’s X Factor social media infographics http://www.elementalcomms.co.uk/blog/the-x-factor-social-media-and-the-live-shows-infographic-week-6 continues to demonstrate the impact that social media is having upon live shows and also upon contestants, ITV’s main social assets, the judges and vice versa.

“The role that social media is having upon contestants and in turn how they are communicating with fans is more intense than ever before. However, even though the contestants may have an impressive fan base across social networks, this doesn’t necessarily translate into the essential votes they need. It’s a symbiotic relationship between the live broadcasts, social media and everything else that happens and out of the house that may have an impact upon how contestants fair in regards to progressing further,” adds Tim Gibbon, director at Elemental.
