Blackmore Ltd, a printer to the marketing industry, has been recognised as one of the most environmentally friendly printers in the UK by being included on a new website launched by David Shorto of charities Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth.
The recently launched website www.ppe.uk.net features only print companies that have proven their environmental commitment through appropriate accreditation. According to the website, there are at least 10,000 printers in the UK; less than 100 have invested resources in reducing their environmental impact over and above the legal requirements. The website lists some of these 100 companies, of which Blackmore Ltd is one, putting it in the top 1% of the UK’s greenest printers. The site is supported by Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, the BPIF, WWF and the Soil Association.
Not only has Blackmore invested in a brand new state-of-the-art press, dramatically minimising the impact on the environment, they also hold the ISO 14001 Environmental Standard award. These have resulted in Blackmore recently reducing land fill waste by over 70%, dramatically reducing energy consumption, water usage by 80% as well as reducing VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions by 3 tonnes.
Blackmore Ltd is working towards gaining an FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) award, which means that all products printed by Blackmore on FSC certified materials can carry the FSC logo, which confirms that the material has been tracked from the forest through to the end product.
Blackmore Ltd’s sales director, Aubrey Aviss said: “We recognise that print companies need to take their responsibilities seriously to help minimise the impact on the environment. That’s why we’ve made huge investments to offer our clients superb quality print whilst being kinder on the environment.”
Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth print buyer David Shorto said: “It’s important for print specifiers to consider the environmental awareness and performance of their chosen printer. In my day to day roles, I take every opportunity to remind people of this. I am delighted to include Blackmore Ltd’s details within the new website.”
