The image was commissioned for use as a seven meter square wall mural, and the client stipulated that they wanted a piece of art.
I shot twenty images at various exposures to capture shadow and highlight detail, then married these up in Photoshop. Care had to be taken with the slight variations in perspective between each image.
In the past I produced photo silk screens of industrial buildings, and here I attempted to get the same feel using pure digital technique. Photo silk screen is produced using graphic arts film, (exceptionally contrasty,) and so I attempted to ape the look of an image constructed by using high contrast stencils. Also, the colour was made to have a blocked in feel, just as with a screen stencil.
Finally, I added a painterly feel by sketching part of the image with Photoshop brush tools and then allowed the sketched in areas to run, like wet paint.
