February FlairIllustration - Jenny Lloyd
February FlairIllustration - Jenny Lloyd: Mountain Poppies
Mountain Poppies
The project brief was to create a greetings card design with a fresh, contemporary, yet decorative feminine edge with mass market appeal. It was important that the design epitomised a feeling of Winter, so that it could be marketed for Christmas if desired, but that it avoided clichés of the festive season and used a limited colour palette. As with all my work I used Photoshop to design the composition and organise the colour scheme, which integrates soft, pale greys, blues and creams with the warmer, darker and more dominant shades of dark brown for the figure's skin tone and the crimson of the poppies. Scanned textures were added later, to increase interest and add visual depth. My aim was to add elements of a romantic nature, such as the wind blowing the figure's hair, the Russian doll held in her hand, and details such as the flowers in the foreground, whilst maintaining a fairly sophisticated feel that would appeal to the mostly female target audience.
